This model was developed for a hospital client to provide a data-driven framework for addressing the critical capacity bottlenecks currently stifling an MRI service line, specifically the 14-day scheduling backlog that is driving referral leakage to competitors. By simulating the financial and operational impact of a “Hub & Spoke” strategy, the model moves beyond simple volume forecasting to visualize the complex interplay between capital investment, construction timing (the “J-Curve”), and staffing costs. Ultimately, it serves as a dynamic decision-support tool, enabling leadership to stress-test the resilience of a $5.2M investment against real-world risks such as construction delays or labor shortages, while quantifying the long-term ROI of shifting outpatient volume to lower-cost ambulatory settings.
